The Char Dham Yatra is one of the most sacred pilgrimage circuits in India, encompassing four spiritually significant shrines nestled in the serene Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. The journey covers Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath—each dedicated to a different deity and representing a path to spiritual liberation. It is believed that undertaking this pilgrimage cleanses the soul and brings one closer to moksha (salvation).

Spiritual Significance
The Char Dham Yatra holds profound significance in Hinduism. Pilgrims traditionally follow the path in a clockwise direction:
Yamunotri → Gangotri → Kedarnath → Badrinath.
Established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century to revive Sanatan Dharma, this pilgrimage symbolizes the spiritual cleansing of body, mind, and soul through divine connection with nature and faith.
Overview of the Four Dhams
- Yamunotri Dham
Dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, this temple marks the origin of the Yamuna River. It is the first stop of the Yatra, where devotees seek blessings for longevity and a life free of suffering. - Gangotri Dham
The abode of Goddess Ganga, this shrine honors the descent of the holy Ganges from the heavens. Gangotri embodies purity and is the spiritual source of India’s most revered river. - Kedarnath Dham
One of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, Kedarnath sits at a majestic altitude surrounded by snow-covered peaks. Pilgrims undertake a challenging trek or opt for helicopter access to seek divine grace. - Badrinath Dham
The final destination of the Yatra, Badrinath, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his meditative form, Badri Narayan. It represents spiritual enlightenment and liberation.
